Community Engagement

Here at Playford, we deeply value our connection with the local community. We actively seek out opportunities to participate in, support, and host a wide range of programs and activities that benefit everyone. Here's a glimpse into how we're currently embracing, enriching and moving in our community.

Large fireworks explode in the night sky above a large crowd of people standing together watching in awe.

Wonderfull Christmas Festival

A week or so before Christmas on a Friday night we transform our carpark into a Wonderfull celebration of Christmas. Our Festival is one of our highlights of the year! With fun activities for all ages, food trucks, an interactive Trail of Wonder for the kids and entertaining acts on the stage, there is something for everyone. It's our gift to the community we love, letting everyone know they are loved by God, who came to be among us, through His son, Jesus. And we finish with a bang... literally. The sky explodes in colour with a fireworks show for all to see.

The church building is filled with people sitting in groups around tables filled with decorations, eagerly awaiting quiz questions to be read.

Quiz Night

Each year, around August, we organize a Quiz Night to raise funds for the WonderFULL Christmas Festival. There's always a theme and it's a chance for people to dress up and decorate. It's a highlight for our community, bringing everyone together for an evening of food, friendly competition and lots of laughter, all in support of a wonderful cause! It's a fantastic opportunity for neighbors and friends to come together, strengthen bonds, and create lasting memories while contributing to a gift to our community.

The church foyer is filled with women, standing together, carol books in hand, singing Christmas carols together underneath sparkling fairy lights, surrounded by tables filled with delicious food.

Women's Christmas Event
A Night Before Christmas

A Night Before Christmas is a special time set aside for women to pause, unwind, and connect amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. It's a heartfelt invitation to the women in our community to come together and be spoilt with delightful coffee and decadent desserts, joyful carol singing and a festive Christmas quiz. Set among twinkling fairy lights and charming Christmas decorations that create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, it's a cherished opportunity to share laughter, stories, and the spirit of togetherness as we celebrate the joy and hope of Christmas.

The church foyer is filled with children's toys and activities in preparedness for playgroup to being. There is tricycles, ball pit, stepping stones, a tunnel and slide along with tables filled with craft and colouring ready for the children to enjoy.

Easter Footy

Every 2 years Central District Football Club hosts a home game on Good Friday. We understand that some find it hard to reconcile Good Friday with Footy but we see it as an opportunity to be present and share the message of Jesus with the footy community. CDFC has invited us to participate in a number of ways. Pastor Pete leads a prayer before the game starts, and we distribute flyers at the gate to encourage reflection on Easter's meaning. Additionally, we set up tents offering children's activities and Hot Cross buns. It's a blessing to be part of this event, which is also enjoyable for everyone involved!

Playford Men's Basketball

The Playford Men's Basketball team was established early 2023. Currently games are played on a Tuesday night at the John McVeity Centre, 182 Peachey Road, Smithfield Plains with Church SA Basketball. The team is open to a variety of skill levels, from those who have never played to those more seasoned in both skill level and age! They regularly practice Thursday nights in the carpark here at the Community Space. Anyone is welcome to come join. If you would like to find out more about games, practices or fees, please contact the office.

Hopestreet it a non-profit organisation in our community that we support through volunteer recruitment and space for events or programs as needed. Hopestreet is a program of Careworks and they "strive to create a safe, fun and inclusive community that is conscious of the needs of the young people in our neighbourhood as well as giving them the opportunity to experience Gods love".

Schools Network
Pastoral Care Workers

At Playford UC, we truly appreciate the important work that Pastoral Care Workers do in our local schools. Every year, we're proud to support these dedicated individuals in any way we can, and many of them are part of our own community. We also enjoy contributing to a Lamington morning tea at Easter and ice-blocks at Christmas for the staff as a small token of our thanks.

Children of the North

Playford Uniting Church is excited to be part of a new working group that brings together local services and government departments. We're focusing on enhancing community engagement in the original Munno Para housing development. This group is just getting started, so stay tuned for updates on how we might play a role in being a part of this community.

Community Space Partners

Most days, our Community Space buzzes with activity as 1 or 2 different groups gather for a variety of events and programs. You'll often see people participating in group meetings, engaging in workshops, enjoying dance lessons, exploring new recipes in cooking classes, or taking part in activities designed for kids. Each of these events is hosted by our Community Space partners, who are integral to the vibrant life of our venue.

Here is a list of our current partners. Some meet at the Community Space weekly, fortnightly, monthly or just once a year. We are grateful for the life and change they are bringing to the Community.
